Clear the clutter

YOU advice columnist Dr Louise has this advice to greet the change of season with a spurt of emotional spring-cleaning.

FREE YOURSELF
A failure lingers longer than a success and if you brood you’ll get stuck. Look to the future.

DUMP BAD STUFF
Ditch spent phrases such as “I’ll never be able to do it”, “it can’t happen to me” and “I’m just unlucky”.

ENERGISE
Focus on your strengths rather than shortcomings. Praise yourself for jobs well done, even menial ones.

REMEMBER
Revisit good moments in your past and experience the positive emotions they evoked. Savour them.

PLAN
Set attainable, fun goals for spring - it’s a time for new beginnings. New ideas and goals produce new energy.

START SOMETHING NEW
Old friendships are valuable but with a new hobby or sport you’ll meet new people.

REJOICE WITH NATURE
Open yourself to the pleasures of spring, the sounds and smells. You’ll feel happy just to be alive.
