Those weekend drinking binges won’t only give you a bad hangover; they could also lead to obesity. American researchers say it’s especially bad for women. Regularly finishing a bottle of wine in a sitting could add 10 cm to your waist over three years. Weight around the abdomen can lead to diabetes and heart disease. Binge drinking is defined as five drinks or more consumed on a single occasion.
TRAFFIC MAKES BLOOD BOIL
Research shows people exposed to high levels of traffic noise are more likely to suffer from hypertension. You could be at risk if you get stuck in noisy traffic each day or live near busy roads. They say noise levels above 60 decibels could raise the heart rate, causing stress and eventually high blood pressure in middle-aged people.
EASY ON THE MACADAMIAS
All nuts are good to eat in moderation. But steer clear of too many macadamia nuts if you’re trying to lose weight because they contain 77 g fat per 100 g. Although the fat is monosaturated and low in cholesterol weight-watchers should limit their intake to only a handful a week. Opt for lower-fat nuts such as almonds and Brazils.
