Women who wear tight jeans run the risk of developing a nerve condition known as meralgia paresthetica. And if they wear high heels as well the pressure the jeans put on the nerve that passes through the hip could cause a prickling sensation in the legs. The condition occurs in construction workers with heavy, low-slung belts, pregnant women and the obese - and it’s increasingly common among women who wear skintight pants. It’s not permanent, a doctor says. The solution? Remove the pressure and the nerve will regenerate.
LAUGH - IT’S GOOD FOR YOU
Feeling depressed? You can feel better in less than two minutes - all you have to do is laugh. Look for funny videos on websites such as YouTube or ask a colleague, friend or relative to tell you a joke. Page through a photo album for snaps that make you smile. This will release dopamine in your brain and make you feel euphoric. Don’t go shopping in an attempt to lift your mood. A survey by the Empire State College in New York shows people who went to a concert, a museum or for a massage were happier afterwards than those who impulsively spent money while shopping.
DINE OUT HEALTHILY
Follow these tips to eat out without guilt:
- Specify you would like your food without extra salt or sauces and ask for it to be prepared in a low-fat way.
- Keep control of your portion sizes.
- Don’t be afraid to share your food with a friend or take home a doggie bag if you’re full.
- Avoid fatty foods and bread. Rather choose fish, chicken without skin, lean red meat, fresh products and wholegrain foods.
