It’s three years on and the laughter lines are more pronounced but the girls are as fabulous as ever. Each of the friends is experiencing her own problems: Big (Chris Noth) makes Carrie a very nonchalant offer of marriage, Miranda discovers Steve (David Eigenberg) has slept with another woman, Samantha struggles to maintain her independence in her relationship with the gorgeous Smith (Jason Lewis); and Charlotte, as usual, is worrying about everyone else’s problems.
There’s lots of fuss over the bride-to-be but it’s a guessing game as to whether Big will go through with the wedding or leave Carrie stranded at the altar as he has done so many times before. Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson is a breath of fresh air as Carrie’s efficient assistant, helping her with more than just paperwork.

Even if you haven’t seen the TV series this movie is a must-see. It’s far from the usual romcom formula and you’ll struggle not to laugh and cry from one minute to the next.

Special features: commentary; deleted scenes.
