Relax, mom, it’s your break too

Did you know going on holiday is the third most stressful event for most moms? Calm your nerves with tips from Naomi Martell of the British Stress Control Group to reduce your stress before setting off on your holiday this festive season. If your partner is driving get him to check the fuel, water and oil beforehand and also to sort out the kids’ snacks and toys for the trip. Even better, get the kids to decide which toys they want to take along.

Treat yourself to a massage or beauty treatment the day before you set off. If your holiday budget doesn’t stretch that far, lock yourself in the bathroom and relax for five minutes as if you’re on the beach. Finally make two lists: one with things that can wait until you get home and one for urgent things. When you’ve ticked everything on the urgent list you can relax and enjoy the break.

PREVENT BACK INJURIES
Strengthening your tummy muscles can protect your back against injury. Here’s an easy exercise you can do two to three times a week. Lie on your back, knees bent and feet and lower back flat on the ground. Pull in your belly button towards your spine and tighten your stomach muscles so your back gently lifts off the ground. Relax. Repeat 12 times and do two or three sets.

SUN BANISHES BEDROOM BLUES
Sunshine not only puts you in a good mood, it also improves your love-life. In a study conducted at Manchester University 16 per cent of the respondents said their sex drive improved when it was sunny.
