YOU’s advice columnist Dr Louise has this advice.
RELAX
Put your brain into neutral - no heavy reading or self-improvement outings. Rest your mind.
ENJOY YOUR PETS
It’s invigorating to spend time playing and cuddling with them.
GET OUTDOORS
Spending tranquil time in nature helps the psyche recover from stress.
BE SELFISH
Say “no” when you’re pressured to do anxiety-provoking activities. Rather do what pleases you.
CONNECT
Whatever your religion or belief, affirm it and affirm the reason for your existence in the cosmos.
BE STILL
We’re often so busy we don’t heed that wise inner voice that tells us what we need. Listen to it now.
EVALUATE
Use your holiday to rethink your life. Come up with new ideas that are fun and practical.
SCHEDULE
Once the new year gets going make a schedule for the year for special time with your family.
PRACTICAL GUIDE TO HOLIDAY FUN
Be a kid again! Count the “sleeps” until your break and don’t focus only on getting to your destination. Soak up the holiday spirit along the way.
Take care. A car can be a lethal weapon so don’t drive when you’ve had alcohol or when you’re tired.
Stay calm. Don’t get into a bad temper if your family aren’t ready to leave when you are. You don’t want to start your holiday angry with one anther.
Take your time. The anticipation, the journey . . . a slower tempo is what your psyche needs to relax.
