How to prevent a mugging

YOU trauma counsellor Debbi Rozowsky advises.

WALK TALL
If you see unsavoury characters ahead of you walk fast, confidently and with purpose.

MAKE A NOISE
If you feel vulnerable or are in a dodgy area keep a whistle handy and blow it if you seem to be targeted.

BE BOLD
If it appears you are being followed turn around and ask the person(s) whether this is the case. Such a confrontation will probably make them back off.

BONUS TIPS
Keep your cellphone and money in your front pockets and less valuable items in your bag.

Avoid dawdling and always be alert when you’re out shopping or walking.
